Asbestos
Asbestos is a cancer causing, fibrous silicate mineral that was used for it's fire-resistant, and tensil strength. It has been found in over 3,000 different building materials in the United States. Due to its inherent fire retardant properties, it was commonly used in household building materials.
Lead
Lead is a heavy, bluish-gray metal that has historically been used in roofing, plumbing, and in paints. Lead based products were frequently used in the construction of homes. Almost half of all homes in the U.S. contain lead and it is both toxic and harmful.
